1. Definitions of Both

PU Varnish:
A traditional and reliable multi-purpose finish that requires the mixing of Component A (main agent) and Component B (hardener) to initiate a chemical reaction for curing. This process takes time and is influenced by temperature and humidity.

Advantages: Good adhesion, high flexibility, less prone to cracking, high tolerance during application, and no specific requirements for the workpiece—whether simple or complex, it cures evenly.

Disadvantages: Low efficiency, long waiting times, high environmental pressure due to high VOC emissions, and inconvenient storage (two-component system requires separate storage and has shelf life limitations).

UV Varnish:
A modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly process where the photoinitiators in the coating undergo rapid changes under specific ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, instantly forming a sturdy network structure.

Advantages: High efficiency, with curing times measured in seconds rather than hours, making it significantly faster and ideal for large-scale automated production. Additionally, it offers high hardness and wear resistance, essential for frequently touched products. It is also environmentally friendly, aligning with the national development philosophy of "green mountains and clear waters are as valuable as gold and silver."

Disadvantages: High initial investment costs for equipment such as UV lamps, power supplies, cooling systems, and light shielding devices. Limited curing coverage, making it unsuitable for inner corners or complex-shaped workpieces—it is relatively单一 and ineffective for deep grooves. Requires special wavelength lamps for specific applications. The finish can be too hard and brittle, making it prone to cracking under impact.

2. Selection and Summary

Choose PU Varnish When:

  • Production batches are small.

  • Workpieces are exceptionally complex, such as PP or PE plastics that are difficult to coat with UV products.

  • The coating requires extremely high impact resistance and flexibility.

  • The budget is limited.

Choose UV Varnish When:

  • Pursuing extreme production speed and efficiency.

  • Automated assembly line operations are available.

  • The product requires high hardness and scratch resistance.

  • Environmental compliance is a priority.

  • Workpieces are simple in shape.
